Student Council 2010 - 2011 |
A new student council consisting of 12 new members , 2 from every year was elected in November 2010. The reps were chosen by their classmates in a private vote. From there, all reps were elected and then a student council committee was also formed to act as a binding connection between the student body and the teachers/ principal/ board of management, they were chosen through the student council member’s in a vote. They represent each student attending Sancta Maria equally and act as a voice for the students in the school. The Council meets once a week to discuss matters that may have arisen. The student council acts as a voice for the students in their school, by bringing their intentions to the attention of the staff. It strives to make school life easier for the students by taking their opinions into consideration when discussing school matters. The committee raises awareness on topics that effect the students and propose suitable solutions to staff to make student life easier for all . All representatives can be identified easily throughout the school as each member wears a student council badge respectively.

Student Council Easter Egg Raffle
Supporting Aware
Tickets €1 Please Support!

“Aware's mission is to create a society where people with depression and their families are understood and supported, are free from stigma and have access to a broad range of appropriate therapies to enable them to reach their full potential.”
- taken from Aware’s website
Aware strives to make life easier for those who suffer from mental illness and depression in their everyday lives, also supporting their families. They provide a local non - judgemental helpline where 75 dedicated volunteers man the helpline for almost 500 hours between them each month. Last year over 200 volunteer facilitators provided more than 2,000 support group sessions.
We organised a Easter egg raffle in aid of Aware, with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the winners, all of which were Easter Eggs. Raffle tickets were sold around the school by Niamh and Maureen for a mere €1. Students and teachers supported the raffle generously. It was an extremely meaningful fundraiser for a worthwhile organisation.

Art Pad Project
Allocated the art pads to a shelf- unit outside the art-room rather than them cluttering up the locker rooms and areas around the school. This was a worthwhile project and with helpful co-ordination from Mr.O’Flynn(the art teacher)he art pads were allocated to one specific safe area.
